Fall 2020 - Spring 2021 Course Support

More than 1,200 instructors, teaching fellows, and academic support staff worked with the Poorvu Center during the summer to prepare for the unusual fall 2020 semester. We invite you to continue engaging with the Center throughout the year. This website provides resources and services for faculty, teaching fellows, and all instructors.

Guided Support:

As the spring term nears, the Poorvu Center will host a guided support cohort from December 7 to December 18. Faculty may register for the cohort using Yale Connect; please register by Wednesday, December 2, 2020. Instructors may participate in four core workshops and several elective sessions. Poorvu Center experts will partner with instructors to address their priorities and concerns for the coming term. All registered instructors will receive a primary contact at the Poorvu Center to help answer questions throughout the two-week program and beyond. Enroll now on Yale Connect.

Self-Directed Support & Consultations:

In addition to ongoing workshops and faculty teaching initiatives programs, the Poorvu Center will continue to help faculty through self-directed resources and one-on-one or small group consultations. Faculty can enroll in the self-directed program online, which offers recommendations for teaching, how-to guides, and workshop recordings. As always, instructors may request a consultation on the Poorvu Center website.

Assessment and remote proctoring guidelines for Fall 2020

On Monday, September 14, Dean Gendler, Dean Chun, and Dean Cooley sent a message to faculty outlining recommendations for Fall 2020 final examinations. They strongly suggest that instructors adopt alternatives to standard in-class exams and assessments. If such alternatives are not feasible, online exam proctoring should be conducted remotely by Yale personnel using Zoom. The Poorvu Center and campus partners have outlined recommendations for remote proctoring and a new graduate student remote proctor position will be introduced.
